The Kitchen Madonna - this is a lovely book!

Photo of my lovely book - why not get one yourself?

Oh children, the book 'The Kitchen Madonna' is such a lovely book.
  It tells of the story of dear Marta, who came from Ukraine.
  Gregory, Janet, Mother and Father wanted Marta to be happy, but she was not happy. Why was Marta unhappy?
  It was Gregory who found out. He asked in his small, quiet way, "What did you have in your kitchen, Marta, that we don't have in ours?"

  Marta twisted her hands in her apron, her cheeks flushed deeper red. "You have no 'good place'," she said. It was hard to explain.   "Our Lady and the the Child . . . like picture but more beautiful . . . prickled with gold . . . and stones, pearls, rubies . . ."
  Janet asked, "Real rubies?" but it was Gregory who realised;
  "She means a sort of icon."
  And Gregory, the cool and aloof, said to Marta, "Don't cry. I will get you an icon."

   Well. Once Gregory made up his mind to something he was not easily discouraged.
  Why not read the wonderful story of Marta and the Kitchen Madonna icon.
