Mary was a happy and kind young lady in Nazareth.
Joseph, a strong carpenter in the village and a good man, saw Mary and loved her.
Mary and Joseph used to worship at the synagogue in the village with their parents; they also worked in the village.
Joseph worked as a carpenter, and was respected as a skilled craftsman.
Mary learned to keep a house clean and comfortable. She learned to draw water from the well, to sweep the floor. She learned to bake bread, and cook tasty food.
Joseph and Mary were betrothed. This means they promised to marry each other.
Both their families and all in the village were very happy that Joseph and Mary wanted to make a home together and have the Rabbi bless their marriage.
Mary and Joseph were happy too.
